In response to “Aunt Jeniffer’s Tigers” by Adrienne Rich.
The massive weight of this wedding band
Also sits heavily upon my hand.
The hand – that feeds and slaves
Don’t be fooled by Aunt Jennifer’s daze.
Secretive fingers flutter across that screen
Threading a tigered, incestuous scene.
But this ring – shines to remind
Solemn vow of devotion – through good and bad times.
When I am dead, these committed hands will lie
Holding the tears from disloyalty’s cry.
Dream fearlessly of men beneath the tree:
We pace in cuckold chivalry.
